Across all genres of coarse Angling the first choice when it comes to particles has to be the magical Hemp Seed. From catching canal Roach on the pole, Bream and Tench on the feeder, Barbel and Chub fishing on a river, or targeting specimen Carp, simply put pretty much every coarse fish that swims loves it.
There are a number of reasons why hemp seed is so attractive to fish. It is full of protein (30%+), oils and essential amino acids. It is also very similar to a fish’s natural diet as it has a soft centre with a crunchy outer shell – just like eating water snails.
It took as a long time to find a supply that we were happy to put our name to as most hemp seed in the UK is imported from China and we believe this hemp to be inferior to ours which is grown and imported from France. French Hemp Seed is regarded by those in the know as one of the best quality seeds in the world.
If targeting larger species such as Carp then try mixing with other particles such as Maize and/or Tigernuts
All particle baits MUST be prepared correctly before use.
Soak in water for a minimum 24 hours and then boil for approx 30 minutes until the hemp starts to crack and the kernels (white hearts) start to appear.
Feed with the use of a pole pot or catapult, great for spod/spomb mixes, use in block end feeders when river fishing, can also be used to good effect to make clear spots in weed and lake debris.
** Tips **
To make your hemp turn black, add two tea spoons of ‘Bicarbonate of Soda’ during the soaking period. After the boiling stage during cool down and add 10-20ml of Beta Stim per kg of Hemp Seed and thank us later!
Another tip for the Carp and Barbel lads – add a few cloves of fresh crushed garlic and let it ferment for a week or so after the boiling stage. This is a real hummer when opening the lid but extremely effective.
